A data breach occurred in Singapore’s Marina Bay Sands Resort that hacked the personal information of 665,000 clients.
Hackers Penetrated Clients’ Information of Marina Bay Sands Resort
The data breach at Marina Bay Sands Resort was the most recent in a series of considerable cybersecurity occurrences known in the state. Hackers evaded the personal information of 665,000 clients of the luxury resort.
The luxury resort said it just knew about the hacking incident on October 20. Cybercriminals accessed the clients’ confidential information, including contact numbers, names, countries of residence, names, and shoppers’ membership numbers.
“Investigations have since determined that an unknown third party accessed customer data of about 665,000 non-casino rewards program members. Based on our investigation, we do not have evidence to date that the unauthorized third party has misused the data to cause harm to customers,” said Paul Town, chief operating officer.
He added the membership data of its casino rewards program seems to be not affected. The extravagant resort was collaborating with a cybersecurity firm to bolster its systems.
Last week, public healthcare institutions experienced a distributed denial of service (DDoS) attack that disrupted internet access due to the sudden influx of malicious traffic.
Immediate Action of the Resort
The data breach happened from October 19 to 20 and included unauthorized third-party entry to the membership data of its non-casino customers’ loyalty program. Hackers can use the leaked data in phishing campaigns, targeting customers.
Upon discovery of the incident, our teams immediately took action to resolve it. [We] have been working with a leading external cybersecurity firm, and have taken action to further strengthen our systems and protect data. We have reported it to the relevant authorities in Singapore and other countries where applicable and are working with them in their inquiries into the issue,” said the iconic Marina Bay Sands Resort.
The management started notifying each Sands LifeStyle loyalty program member regarding the data breach incident.
