Cambodia Airport Busy as a Bee Again

It’s been a long time since Cambodia airport became busy receiving locals and foreigners because of the pandemic. According to Phnom Penh International Airport, they haven’t been occupied for a long time and thank their airline partners.

The flights remarkably display encouraging indications. The Royal Government of Cambodia
starts accepting fully-vaccinated foreign tourists. It will help and upturn the nation’s affected tourism and economy because of the pandemic.

“The Philippine side announced that the Philippine Airlines will be operating direct-flights weekly between Phnom Penh and Manila next month.” It is according to a press release following the Cambodia-Philippines Joint Commission for Bilateral Cooperation (3rd JCBC). The meeting was co-chaired by the Philippine Foreign Secretary Teodoro Locsin and Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Prak Sokhonn.

As specified by Sin Chanserivutha, eight airlines are about to fly in. Six already applied for taking up flights again, while two asked for additional flights. Because of this, the number of flights will rise to 43 each week, starting December 2021 onwards. Chanserivutha is the Spokesman for the Secretariat of State for Civil Aviation.

No Entry for Travelers Coming from the African Nations

To curb the spread of the more transmissible Omicron variant, Cambodia airports ban travelers from African countries. Travelers from Africa’s ten countries won’t be able to enter Cambodia. It includes those who stayed in Africa in the past three weeks.

These ten countries are Angola, Mozambique, South Africa, Zambia, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Namibia, Lesotho, and Malawi.

Cambodia mirrors similar actions by other Asian countries. It includes Singapore, Indonesia, Thailand, and Japan. All of these countries passed travel bans because of the Omicron variant threat. Currently, Cambodia continues to have low cases of Covid-19, but still, no Omicron variant reported case.

New Checkpoint to Rise Between Cambodia and Thailand

Meanwhile, Cambodia seeks the feasibility of initiating a new Thma Da Border Checkpoint with Thailand. It aims to boost trade and tourism between the two Asian countries. The new checkpoint will be in Thma Da commune of Pursat province’s Veal Veng district. It bounds Thailand’s Trat province.

The Ministry of Public Works and Transport stated that several people in Cambodia’s western part desire to have a checkpoint. Additionally, some investors favor the idea because the closure affects livelihoods and businesses in Thailand and Cambodia.

Once the new checkpoint begins construction, it will include an immigration office building. There will also be customs and excise buildings as well as an administrative building. It will examine cross-border goods transportation. Moreover, it will monitor people’s movement from in and out of the country.
